Fernando Chirdo, PhD
- Affiliation: Professor of Immunology at the Faculty of Exact Sciences, National University of La Plata (UNLP), Principal Investigator at CONICET (National Scientific and Technical Research Council), Argentina. Head of the research group Immunobiology of the Small Intestine at the Institute of Immunological and Physiopathological Studies (IIFP, UNLP-CONICET).
- Scientific Interest: His research focuses on the immunobiology of the small intestine, aiming to improve the understanding of chronic inflammatory diseases such as celiac disease; to this aim he uses both human samples and mouse models. In addition, he works on the development of immunochemical platforms for gluten detection in food, as well as serological tests for the diagnosis of celiac disease.

- Scientific Interest: She investigates mechanisms of the immune response in the context of mucous membranes related to pathologies that involve periods of inflammation, such as inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and Cancer. Among the proteins, signaling pathways and processes on which the laboratory focuses are: IL33/ST2 axis, steroidogenesis, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, along with chemokines and short chain fatty acid (SCFA) transporters.
